"Facing History and Ourselves," to me means that we not only have to look at history as part of what happened to someone else in the past but as a part of ourselves also. They are connected because our history has helped to develop who we are and that includes our current personalities and where we are. For example if my ancestors weren't from Europe then I wouldn't be the race I am or possibly even know the language I do.
I agree with Sasha, "Facing History and Ourselves" certainly does focus on things that happened in history as well as ourselves.

I agree with Sasha and Stevie. However, I would like to add on how "Facing History and ourselves" is important to me. Not only does this title talk about difficulties that have occurred in the past, but I believe it is important to be aware of these historical events. How do we know that things like the Civil War, limited rights, dictatorships, and so forth will not happen again in our future?
I believe the comment "facing history and ourselves" means that we will be focusing on the past history and how it not only shaped the world and the people living in it but also ourselves, and how history can effect ones identity. Like the anonymous person said we have to look at history as part of what happened to someone else in the past but as a part of ourselves also.
My take on the title "facing history and ourselves" is that everyone's past pretty much has somewhat of an effect on their future. And the things that happen in the past could determine each person's character. The only way to prevent the past from permanently having a negative effect on oneself and those that surround them is by facing the past and acknowledging the fact that decisions made were not necessarily good.
I agree with Travis Kent in his statement that history has shaped who we are.
I think that the title "facing history and ourselves" means to me that a way to progress in life is to look back at the mistakes and accomplishes in history and build on it. Without knowledge of the past we have no way of changing the future. History has always been a interest of mine and the way that society shapes us as a person. Yes, we are all different, we come from different backgrounds and its really interesting that we cannot come together as a whole species really, and tolerate the differences in each other. We are shaped by our history and experiences and hopefully its a positive change.
-I think of the title "Facing History and Ourselves" shows the focus on our own views when dissecting some of the more gruesome aspects of history. I feel that this is an indication that we will learn more about ourselves and how we view different issues while learning about what motivation may have driven people to act as they did at that time.
-I agree with Mr. Travis Kent when he said that we have to look at history as part of ourselves.
I think that when you hear the title "facing history and ourselves" it means that by looking at our past mistakes we can grow from them and learn. Many people don't like facing their bad history, but many of us also can grow from realizing the mistakes made. Since the way we are is determined by our history, looking at ourselves as a whole by viewing this history can be an indication to who we really are.
I agree with northface when he or she said that "facing history and ourselves" means looking at our past mistakes to fix them and grow. I believe this because many people like to look at the successes that we have had and just reflect on those because it is easier. Sometimes it is necessary to do this, but sometimes you need to improve on your mistakes so that they are not repeated. I also agree with Rainbow_fairy because I think that we will develop our view on these issues in our past. Those are my thoughts on what "facing history and ourselves" means.
Hearing the title "facing history and ourselves" to me means that knowing what happened in the past affects us and our future. We can learn from the mistakes and accomplishes made in history and advance further on that and possibly prevent the same mistakes from happening again. I agree with northface about how history and knowing ourselves indicates who we really are by learning and growing from the mistakes we made.
I think facing history and ourselves means we have to understand why we live like we do today. Because of previous decisions in the world, we are either affected positively or negatively in certain aspects. I agree with Sasha in the way that our ancestors and their customs stay with us. My family is culturally diverse and for that reason we have different customs as well as a different lifestyle than most all-American families.
I agree with reader and snowflake. I think that facing history and ourselves is a class meant to have us learn from our past mistakes and ultimately keep us from making new ones.
When looking at the title of this blog, I think about the idea of coming to grips with who we are by looking at the triumphs and mistakes in the world's history. We need to look at our own morals and realize that past events can still affect the way we live today. Furthermore, I completely agree with Turquoise. The idea of understanding why we live the way we live is quite interesting. Not only does it teach you something about yourself but also gives insight into how others perceive you. Snowflake's comment about our past affecting our future is also something I think about when looking at the title of the blog. Learning from our past mistakes is how we grow as people, and if we begin to learn from our past mistakes as a nation, we can definitely grow to become socially and economically stable.
I think that the title of the blog refers to the fact that while we have to face history's past, we also have to face ourselves and the mistakes we have made (just like there have been mistakes made in the past). I agree with Snowflake, how the past affects us and our future. We need to confront these issues head on and create a better tomorrow
I think "facing history and ourselves" means that we have to understand why our human nature caused the events in history, and realize what we can do to prevent it. The best way to avoid the nastiness of our human nature is to realize it is there and find ways to avoid it or get rid of it. I agree with Hello that learning from our past mistakes is how we progress as a culture.
I believe that "facing history and ourselves" means that the only way to truly see ourselves in the present is to take a look into the past. History has molded the people of today and the only way to look forward is to look back on that history. I agree with Fausto that we can learn from history and make our society better.
I agree with Sasha and northface about what "facing history and ourselves" means. As Sasha said, we have to make a connection with past history and ourselves today. Whatever we do in our past will effect the person we are today. History and ourselves are immensely connected because without the things that have happened in our past, we wouldn't be who we are today. Also, northface added that we will be able to grow and learn from the mistakes we made in previous history, and I agree because everyone learns from their mistakes.

Facing History and Ourselves can mean many different things. I believe that it means making connections from the past, present, and future. While doing this, I believe that we can make the world a better place to live in because we can look at our mistakes and correct them all while learning more and more about different people. I agree with Fausto and Jacob as well.
I think "facing history and ourselves" could mean that, despite the difficulty, we will be facing the cruelties and injustices that people have put each other through in the past. In turn, we will be facing ourselves as fellow people with the same capacity for destruction. I also think Fausto may be on to something in thinking that we can learn from history and prevent certain things from happening in the future.
I believe that "facing history and ourselves" means that we need to study what has happened in the past, along with what is going on now with our lives. In doing so, we can see the problems that have occurred through out history and make sure they are not repeated in the present. That being said, I agree with Willy Bob that we must make connections between our past and present, making the world a better place. Yeehaw
I think Facing history and ourselves means, that we face the history of our lives and our bad decisions and good decisions that we have made. I agree with Sasha as well.
I think facing history and ourselves means finding out who we are and where we came from. It is pretty much a search for your identity. I think that you figure out who you are by looking at your interests, your family history, and your heritage/cultural background. I agree with fausto when they said that it is about learning how our human nature caused certain events in history and how we need to learn to use these events to learn for the better
I believe that "facing history and ourselves" means that we must study what has happened in the past and consider how it has shaped who we are as individuals and as a whole society. We can study and evaluate these major events of our past in order to find out how we can better ourselves. We can learn from our history. I agree with Fausto about how we can better ourselves as a culture.
I agree with Nicholas A. Gerhard when he says that facing history and ourselves deals with finding out who we are and where we came from. I think that this is only part of facing history and ourselves though. I think that it means that we must look to see who other people are as well. The history does not deal with ourselves, it deals with what our ancestors did and what others' ancestors did as well. We must deal with the consequences of their actions whether they are good or bad. These actions have shaped what we are like. We need to learn from the past to see what we have become and work on learning from the mistakes they made, and correct them in our own lives so we do not repeat these mistakes.
I am 6/7 period sorry about that.
I feel as though "facing history and ourselves," means that we not only have to deal with problems of the past, but problems that occur today and affect our lives at this present. Although, most importantly I think it is what we learn from the problems of the past, that help us gain a better understanding of the problems we face in the present. That is why I would have to agree with Willy Bob. A successful society can helped be achieved if we learn from the mistakes we made in the past in order to shape a better future. Without fully understanding where other societies went wrong, our society is likely to follow down the same path.
Im in 9th period. I forgot to put that.
Im in 9th period. I forgot to put that.
I think that "facing history and ourselves, is like taking the current and past struggles of others and expressing our views and opinions on said topics. Also i think it reflects the hardships, that may or may not be recent, that people face(d).
im in 4/5 by the way
I feel as if the title "Facing History and Ourselves" basically means that we have to face what was reality some years back because it is events that actually happened and it isn't something that we can just ignore. Also within ourselves because some of our ancestors im sure went through some of the events that we are going to be discussing about in this class, and i cant wait to really know the truth about alot of these past events that have happened through the years.
I think that "facing history and ourselves" means facing the difficulties of that past and how they relate to today. I agree with Clevelandsteam saying that we learn from our past, too. It's impossible to make no mistakes ever, but it is in our power to make a mistake, and then learn from that by never letting it happen again.
I think facing history and ourselves means that we should educate ourselves with history and then apply it to ourselves, since we are a part of history. I think we should educate ourselves with history because history repeats itself and once it does we should know how it happened before, and we should learn from mistakes made by those before us to benefit the world around us. juicysteak27 said something similar to my opinion and I agree with them.
"Facing history and ourselves" means several things to me. First, it means remembering one's past and relating it to everyday life, whether these things are good or bad. It also means that one should know their roots and their history; you should be familiar with your own history and how it is relevant to your life.
I am in period 6/7, I forgot to post that part.
I agree with what Stuffetta said about how one should educate themselves about history and then apply it to their lives. I think Stuffetta had a very well written post.
I think facing history and ourselves simply means dealing with our past and finding oursleves in a way that we haven't already. It could have ultimately many meanings but that's what I think of when I hear that.
"Facing History and ourselves" means to that everyday we our encountered with things that were bring upon us because of the past and we are writing history for ourselves every new day. Whether good or bad, we have to face what has happened and what we shall do now.
I think facing history and ourselves means that we must look back in time and see the good and bad that came out of it. Once we examine these past events then we can learn from them and see how they apply to our own lives. I also agree with northface that we have to grow and learn from our mistakes, as well as by educating ourselves with history we can apply it so history doesn't repeat itself.
I believe "facing history and ourselves" means that we will be learning about how history has impacted us. It's about how we as people have to examine how we have influenced the course of history and facing the consequences of our actions. I agree with Stuffetta in that we have to learn from our past mistakes and make sure they don't happen again.
As many other people have said, the title "Facing History and Ourselves" means looking at the worlds history and seeing where things went wrong and what mistakes we made. We need to learn from the mistakes of others. I think that this course will make us face ourselves most of all and see how we can make a difference in the world to help prevent the intolerance demonstrated in the past.
The title "Facing History and Ourselves" to me means that we need to study history and learn about what happened in the past, and relate it to ourselves and what we might have gone through or the problems that we might be facing today. I feel that it means that we need to make a connection between past events and the present and see what we can do to make a change. I think it will be an interesting class and I also agree with Sasha.
I think Facing History Through Ourselves emphasizes putting ourself in the context of historical events and dilemmas. This class will help us discover our place in society, and give us the knowledge needed to fight for that place and secure a democracy. I agree with Gerhard who metioned that this class will help us explore our individual indentities. Placing yourself in the context of your ancestors, your neighbors, or even the founding fathers, can reveal what it is we truly beleive and what it means to keep those beliefs safe. As Tyler also said, this class is a chance for growth, not only in our personal lives, but also for the future because it will be in our generations' hands to ensure that history does not repeat itself.
I believe that Facing history and Ourselves means to not accept the saying history repeats itself, and change things that were bad. I also think it means we should recognize errors of the pass and correct them for the future. I agree with Nicky G when they said search for an identity. Thats what i think the title means.
Like Hpesoj said, not letting history repeat itself could go along with this quote. A saying that could also go along with this is by Mahatma Gandhi "Be the change you want to see in the World" before we look to judge past actions of the world we need to look at ourselves. I think that’s pretty much what the title means.
I agree with Billy Jean when they say that "Facing History and Ourselves" refers to learning about history, and the way in which the past has impacted us in the present. According to the syllabus, we will be covering some pretty hard topics in this class, and we be educated in how human beings can be hateful towards one another. Riley is right in saying that we need to educate ourselves in history so that we don't repeat it. Without learning about these topics in context, and realizing that hatred can happen anywhere (for example, Hitler came into power because he was elected in a democracy), we will not learn from our mistakes or change our behavior.
Well Facing History and Ourselves, to me means that we are trying to change history and ourselves. To make the world a better place and I also agree with Hpesoj about how we are not accept the saying history repeats itself.
Facing History and Ourselves to me means that america is what is is today because of history. Things that happens in the past make up not only everyone else but make up who were are as well. Also I agree with Hpesoj on what he said about agreeing with the saying history repeats itself. We can change that but it has to be with unity and the strengths in different generations to get educated so that this goal with be achieved
Facing History and Ourselves, to me means that it is important to look back on past events and see how they have effected us. Agreeing with Sasha I believe that our society and who we are is shaped by the events of our past. I beleive it is very important to recognize those events.
I agree with sunshine when they said that facing history and ourselves means that we will learn how history has impacted who we are today. In addition, it means that we need to not just understand what has happened in history, but also gain the ability to cope with the turmoils in our history and grow from them. I also think that this class will teach us to do our best to make sure that history doesn't repeat itself and that we try not to make the same mistakes
Facing history and ourselves means facing what's happened in the past and how it's affected our lives today. I agree with Nicholas A. Gerhard when they said that facing history and ourselves also means finding out who we are and where we came from.
I think 'facing history and ourselves' means recognizing that although the past is long gone, it has shaped who we are in so many ways. As others have said, it is important to learn from mistakes and grow as people. History should be an asset to us in shaping the future.
I think that "facing history and ourselves" means that we are using history to figure out who we are today and what we need to do to help the future. I agree with Ichiefgreengrowningtrees and Ofwgkta.

"Facing history and ourselves" to me means that you learn from your past mistakes to better your future. I agree with Nicholas A. Gerhard when they said that facing history and ourselves also means finding out who we are and where we came from.
The meaning of "Facing History and Ourselves"means to me is that its better to face yourself before you judge another person. Another meaning i think is to not thinking about the things or the statics about the person just because their different in color, race, ethnicity, shape or form before you get to know them.
I am not nicholas a gerhard anymore. my new name is veronica corningstone
I believe " Facing history and ourselves"implies that we can use the past mistakes of our elders in order to shape and define ourselves. Likewise, we can use this information to change our society to not only be better but accepting to all. In response to kc classiczip's response, I agree with their take on the title to use the past to help better our future.
In agreement with Megan 6/7, I think that "facing history and ourselves" means using history to figure out who we are today and what we need to do to better the future. But I also think it can mean we are putting ourselves in history to try to further understand the historical landmarks we have spent the past years learning about and thus ourselves.
When l hear the phrase, "facing history in ourselves"to me that means that we are learning history but not only are we learning it but we are giving our personal opinions towards it. When we learn something new we have to dig deep within ourselves to fully understand it.
I agree with Hot Carl when he said the phrase Facing History and Ourselves is like "taking the current and past struggles of others and expressing our views and opinions on said topics". I believe when we as a class explore this in detail we will find out how history played a huge role in who we are today.
4/5 by the way.
I agree with Sasha. I feel that the meaning of the blog is learning and coming to terms with the past and then dealing with how it shapes our today and tomorrow. Everything that has happened is our personal and world's history effects us all in some way. Whether is effects our ancestors or us personally is shapes who each and one of us become
"Facing history in ourselves" makes me think about how a person's life can be formed by the history of their ancestors. I agree with many of the previous statements that say that this statement would imply the coming to terms with our past history. This observation helps in understanding of why our particular race/ethnic group have the reputation that they have, and realizing that, regardless of what the stereotypes may be, that they can be overcome.
The title means that if we don't learn about history then it will repeat itself. Also, it has a high tendency to repeat itself in all of us and it affects all of us. I agree with the points made in Willy Bob's blurb.
I believe the comment "facing history and ourselves" is something that we will be focusing on the past history and how it not only really molded the world and the people living in it but also ourselves, and how history is effecting our identity. Like the Anonymous said "we have to look at history as part of what happened to someone else in the past but as a part of ourselves also."
I believe that "facing history and ourselves" means that we have to understand what happens and how did it effect us. For instance, learning about horrific events, such as the Holocaust and the the harsh treatment of African Americans, helps us understand what these people went through and making us feel greatful for who we are today. By feeling greatful I am saying that we do not live in a country that kills just because of religion or race. We are treated as equals.
I agree with Megan 6/7 statement. It is some what similar to my post.
I think that "facing history and ourselves" means that we have to face our past mistakes and learn from them. Also that in a way history can be the foundation of who we are today.
I believe that the quote "Facing History and Ourselves" is meant to be a gateway into the opening of our eyes. it is to show us where we fall into the puzzle of history and how we can change the future ourselves based on the past. we must open our eyes to abominations, and open our minds to solutions to age old problems in order to stop them from occurring again.
I feel that the quote means that the past shaped the present and the future to see how people view other people and how they are looked at in life. How people judge other people based on their ethnicity. People are treated very differently based on what has happend in the past. The past shaped today and how people are seen in today's world.
