I agree with Sasha, Snowflake, and Turquoise about the fact that we take comfort in people who have problems fitting in because of their race. Wheras, if a black girl was friends with a white girl and the black girl was discussing her issues with the white girl, the white girl would just brush her off and tell her to stop being oversensitive, just like the article explained. I also agree with one of the comments made about our early childhood. When we are young, race means nothing to us. The only thing we care about is sharing with everyone because of who they are. That's what sharing is all about in preschool through kindergartten. However, as the teenage years hit us, so does puberty. In this instance, we start to look at who we are and our identity. We begin to feel the need, almost the longing, to fit in. There are many cliques in high school, and stereotypes are made about who should hang out with whom. I think in some cases, there are some forms of cliques at Orange High School, but for the most part, it is very diverse. I feel Orange is one of the safest schools because of this positive aspect. But in other schools, students and their peers might not feel so lucky because of the limited diversities. We are very fortunate.
